Cunningham played in four contests as a reserve offensive lineman in 2011, earning his first varsity letter after missing the first half og the season with an injury. He started the final two games of his junior season at right tackle as Cornell established new single-game passing yard records in each game. A converted tight end, he saw time on the offensive line as a reserve in four contests in 2010, including in each of the final three games. He saw time on the junior varsity as a freshman in 2009.

At Memphis University School
Cunningham was a two year starter at Memphis University School and was named first-team all-region his senior year. He helped lead the team to a perfect 13-0 record, a Tennessee Division II Class AA state championship,and a No. 25 national ranking by MaxPreps.com. He was a two-time Mercury Player of the Week and was also invited to participate in the Memphis City All-Star Game. Cunningham earned three letters as a member of the basketball team, which won a Tennessee state title in 2007, and two letters as a member of the trap shooting team.

Personal
Dylan Bruce Cunningham is the son of Bruce and Kelly Cunningham and has a younger brother and sister. Cunningham is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.
