Austin is looking for his first varsity appearance after serving on the scout team at receiver in each of his first two years. Austin saw time on the travel team and was on the two-deep during his freshman season, but did not see any varsity action. He was part of the scout team at wide receiver, and has a chance to earn significant playing time as a sophomore in 2011.

At Charlotte Latin
Austin was a first-team all-state wide receiver as a senior at Charlotte Latin School, helping the team to the 2009 state championship. He hauled in 44 catches for 911 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior, setting a state record for consecutive games with a touchdown catch (10). Austin was picked to play in the Private School Shrine Bowl All-Star Game against South Carolina and caught a touchdown with three minutes remaining to force overtime. Austin made 18 catches for 325 yards and three scores as a junior. He also played basketball and track and Charlotte Latin, serving as team captains for both teams. Austin led Latin to a state track title as a senior, winning the both the high jump individually and was part of the 4x200 relay that took first. As a junior, Austin was the conference champion in the high jump (6-2) and also won a league title in the 4x400 relay. He was named the school's Athlete of the Year by both Charlotte Latin and the Charlotte Observer and received the school's Sportsmanship Award recognizing outstanding contributions in the areas of leadership, teamwork and high standards of conduct.

Personal
Davis Wade Austin is the son of Wade and Lilla Austin and has a younger sister. His uncle, Wayne Radloff, was the starting center for Georgia’s 1980 national championship team and played in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers. Austin is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
