At Cornell: Lempa will again be a key cog in the linebacking corps in 2007 after ranking second on the team in tackles as a junior (62). Lempa had six tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks and also recovered a fumble. The 6-0, 215-pounder was all over the field with a career-high 13 tackles at Brown. Lempa also had seven stops, including 1.5 for a loss in the win over nationally ranked Albany. Lempa recorded 23 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, and showed a knack for making the big play as a sophomore. He notched an interception and blocked a kick while contributing five tackles against Bucknell. He also had five tackles against Penn and notched four tackles and a sack vs. Columbia. A high-energy, hard-hitting linebacker, he will be looked at as a leader of the defense as a senior. Lempa is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
At Point Pleasant Beach: Lempa was a four-year letter winner in football at Point Pleasant Beach HS. He was the team’s captain his senior season, earning first-team all-county linebacker accolades. He was named national division defensive player of the year and was the MVP of the 2003 Keyport Hall of Fame game. Lempa also lettered in baseball and basketball at Point Pleasant.
Personal: Douglas Robert Lempa is the son of Robert and Patricia Lempa. He has an older sister and an older brother, Ryan, a captain and second-team All-Ivy selection on the 2004 Big Red team.
