Biography

At Cornell: Schmeltzer is a big target at tight end at 6-4 and 251 pounds. As a freshman, he saw significant time on the junior varsity, establishing himself as a player to watch among the underclassmen. During the spring he split time with the baseball team, batting .246 with six doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI in 27 games, including 19 starts. He saw most of his playing time as a designated hitter. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

At Bergen Catholic: Schmeltzer caught eight passes for 151 yards on offense and posted 15 tackles and a sack while recovering a fumble on defense as a senior at Bergen Catholic HS, despite missing five games due to injury. The two-time all-league pick was an honorable mention all-county pick as a junior and helped Bergen Catholic to a state title in 2004. A highly recruited baseball player as well, Schmeltzer was a PUMA preseason All-American in both 2006 and 2007. Baseball America ranked him as the No. 133 ranked player in the Class of 2007, while Perfect Game Northeast has him slotted as the No. 52 player as a pitcher/first baseman. Schmeltzer competed at the Team One East showcase as one of the top players in the Northeast in 2007. He won the national home run derby at the AAU championships in 2001 and finished as the national runner-up in 2002.

Personal: Jadd Aharon Schmeltzer is the son of Dr. Betty A. Rosa and David Schmeltzer and has an older brother. His father won a national title in the javelin in his age group at the City College of New York.
