Taylor was an all-state selection in 2019 as a quarterback at Nolan Catholic HS ... part of a state runner-up squad that went 11-1 ... first-team all-district selection as a junior when he was named team MVP after throwing for 1,900 yards and 24 touchdowns ... twice elected team captain ... also lettered in baseball and track and field.

James Carmen Taylor is the son of Jeffrey and Denis Taylor and has an older brother and sister ... his father played football at Cornell and was part of the 1990 Ivy League championship team ... his brother Danny (football at Washington University) and sister Emma (swimming at Lafayette) are also collegiate athletes ... three cousins are collegiate athletes (Joe Taylor, fencing at North Carolina; Nick Taylor, rowing at Princeton; Abby Geiser, track and field at Duke) ... he is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
