Biography

At Cornell
Shapiro emerged as one of the Ivy League’s top deep threats in 2013 and will be a featured player again as a senior. He ranked among the conference’s leaders in receptions (38), receiving yards (600) and receiving touchdowns (six) while averaging 15.8 yards per catch in nine starts. Shapiro had a pair of 100-yard games and opened the season with a touchdown reception in each of his first five contests. He saved his best for last, catching 10 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown in the season-ending win at Penn. Shapiro also hauled in five passes for 113 yards and a touchdown in the 2013 opener against Bucknell. He had at least 75 receiving yards and a touchdown in games against Brown, Monmouth and Harvard and found the end zone against Yale. He enters his senior year just 250 yards shy of becoming the 21st receiver in Cornell history to reach 1,000 career yards. Shapiro missed the 2012 season due to injury after a promsing rookie campaign. He had a strong rookie season in 2011, catching 15 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown before missing the final two games of the year due to injury. He had at least one catch in seven of the eight games he played in freshman year, including six catches for 69 yards and a score at Dartmouth. He also caught two passes for 29 yards against Princeton. He possesses great size (6-5) as a big target in the red zone, and also has fantastic hands and body control.

At De La Salle HS
A second-team all-state selection as a senior at wide receiver, Shapiro helped guide De La Salle HS to a pair of league, regional and state titles. He was an all-league and all-area receiver in his final season and earned the team's Most Valuable Back award for his 14-0 squad. Shapiro caught 35 passes for 642 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 18.3 yards per catch in 2010. As a junior, Shapiro caught 21 passes for 412 yards and five touchdowns in leading his team to a 13-2 record. A three-sport athlete (football, basketball and baseball), Shapiro earned played a combined 10 varsity seasons.

Personal
Lucas Allen Shapiro is the son of Daniel and Doreen Shapiro and has a younger sister. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
