At Cornell: An athletic and physical defensive back who converted from wide receiver, Longo showed he is more than capable of earning a significant role in the defensive backfield with his play in 2007. Despite serving as a third defensive back, he ranked among the team leaders with five pass breakups and posted five tackles. Included was a career-best game against Columbia that saw him break up three passes to go along with one tackle. Three of his four tackles came on special teams, where he excelled in kick coverage. As a freshman, Longo saw action on special teams in the win over Ivy co-champion Princeton, making one tackle. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

At Middletown South: Longo helped his Middletown South HS team to three consecutive state titles and earned first-team all-league as a senior. He recorded 25 catches for 505 yards and five touchdowns in his final season after posting 19 catches for 378 yards and three scores as a junior. Longo also intercepted three passes during his senior campaign. A second-team all-shore pick, he was awarded all-academic honors in the league in each of his final two years. Longo also lettered for three years in basketball and golf and once in track and field.

Personal: Mark James Longo is the son of James and Marjorie Longo and has a younger sister. He is cousins with former Big Red All-Ivy defensive lineman Ryan Lempa and two-year starter at linebacker Doug Lempa.
