As a junior (2018)

• Missed the entire season due to injury.

As a sophomore (2017)

• Was slated to start at tackle in the preseason before suffering an injury.
• Made his first career start against Colgate when he opened at right tackle.
• Returned from injury to earn time against Princeton and earned a start as a sixth offensive lineman vs. Columbia.
• Played in four total games.
 

As a freshman (2016)

• Was a member of the junior varsity as a freshman in 2016.
 

Prior to Cornell

• Wells earned first-team all-state honors on both the offensive and defensive lines as a senior at Kent Denver School.
• A part on one state championship team and a runner-up during his four-year varsity career, he was a three-time all-conference pick on the offensive line and was a first-team selection on both sides of the football in his final two years.
• As a senior, Wells was named Offensive Lineman of the Year in the conference after blocking for an offense that piled up 284.6 yards per game on the ground with 51 rushing touchdowns en route to a league title and a spot in the state semifinals.
• Wells also earned multiple varsity letters in both baseball and basketball.
 

Personal

• Matthew Hobson wells in the son of Randy and Cindy Wells and has an older sister and younger brother.
• His sister, Elizabeth, is on the cheerleading team at Pepperdine.
• His grandfather played football at Wichita State.
• He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
