At Cornell: One of the team’s top defenders and one of the Ivy League’s most underrated players, the three-year starter is a hard-hitting safety with good speed and football sense. Boyd finished 2006 ranked second on the squad with his 62 tackles and added six tackles for loss, a sack, and four pass breakups to the cause. A two-time first-team ESPN The Magazine academic all-district selection, Boyd had two tackles for loss in games against Bucknell and Columbia and posted a season-high 11 tackles at Harvard. He also had two of the most important carries of the season on offense - successfully running on fake punts to pick up first downs against Albany and Penn. His two carries went for a total of 42 yards. Boyd had a breakthrough season in 2005, finishing fourth on the team’s tackle chart with 53 stops. He added three tackles for a loss, a sack, an interception and four pass breakups on the season. Boyd had nine tackles, including two for a loss, against Bucknell, then matched that total later in the season with nine stops against Ivy champion Brown. Boyd had five tackles and his first career sack against Georgetown and notched seven tackles and an INT in the win over then-No. 25 Harvard. He saw action in three games as a freshman, making one special teams tackle. Boyd was the recipient of the team’s Daniel N. Bondareff Freshman Scholar-Athlete Award. Boyd is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
At Deer Park: Boyd was a three-sport athlete and football letter winner at Deer Park HS. He played both quarterback and safety as a senior, earning a 235A honorable mention while serving as the team’s captain. A member of the Touchdown Club, Boyd was named the Houston Scholar Athlete of the Year for the 2003 season. He also played baseball and track.
