Biography

As a senior (2021)

• Earned the start in the season opener against No. 22 VMI, making one catch.
• Missed the rest of the season due to injury.
 

As a senior (2019)

• Missed the entire season due to injury.
 

As a junior (2018)

• Saw action in all 10 contests as a reserve tight end and on special teams.
• Earned his first collegiate start in the win over Sacred Heart.
• Has played in each of the first nine contests of 2018 with five starts.
• Had his first career catch, a 2-yard grab, in the win at Brown.

As a sophomore (2017)

• Played in two varsity contests.
• Made his collegiate debut against Yale in the Ivy League opener.
• Also played against Brown.
 

As a freshman (2016)

• Competed on the junior varsity team as a freshman in 2016.
 

Prior to Cornell

• Canal was a two-time league all-star at defensive end for Hopkinton HS.
• He registered four sacks and 15 quarterback hurries in his final season, earning team MVP accolades after garnering team defensive MVP as a junior.
• Canal served as a senior captain.
• He also played basketball, where he was a preseason all-state selection as a senior by Mass Hoops and a Player to Watch by the Boston Herald.
