• Roach spent two seasons on the scout team at Western Michigan before transferring to Cornell.

At Mt. Carmel HS
• Roach was a three-year team captain at Mt. Carmel HS. A member of the 2010 state runner-up squad, he was part of the Chicago Prep Bowl championship squad as a senior.
• Roach was a two-star recruit by Rivals.com and was ranked among the top 40 recruits in the state of Illinois as a senior by ESPN.com.
• Roach was ranked 155th nationally at his position by ESPN.com as well.
