• A first-team academic all-state selection in football and wrestling, he was chosen to receive the Chevron Scholar-Athlete of the Week in New Orleans.
• Besselman also competed on the varsity baseball team.

• Richard Joseph Besselman Jr. is the son of Rick and Carol Besselman and has an older sister.
• His grandfather (Tulane), uncle (Mississippi) and great uncle (LSU)  all played college football.
• He is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
