Biography

At Cornell: An honorable mention All-Ivy selection as a junior, Blessing had a team-high 70 tackles and five sacks in his first season as a starter to go along with six tackles for loss and two pass breakups. He played his best in the Big Red’s big games, leading the team in tackles in wins over Colgate and Princeton and registering nine tackles and two sacks in the triumph over Dartmouth. His five sacks placed him 52nd nationally in the final NCAA statistics. A talented performer with a high motor, Blessing will again be looked at to spearhead the defense. He played in all 10 games as a reserve linebacker and special teams starter in 2005, making six total tackles, including three against Bucknell in the season opener. Blessing also recorded his first career sack, a 10-yard stop, against the Bison. Blessing saw action in each of the team’s final five games in 2004, all on special teams. He finished the season with three tackles, including solo stops against Princeton and Penn. Blessing is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

At Oneida: Blessing was a three-time letter winner who excelled at both running back and linebacker. A three-year starter, he was named a first-team all-league linebacker and a third team All-Central New York linebacker as a senior. His junior season, Blessing was named a first-team all-league running back and linebacker, as well as a second-team all-state linebacker.

Personal: Ryan James Blessing is the son of Jeff and Laura Blessing and has two younger brothers.
