At Cornell
McHugh is a two-year member of the scout team who will attempt to crack the defensive line rotation in 2011. He spent time on the two-deep as a freshman and saw significant time on the junior varsity in 2009. McHugh is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

At Marshfield
McHugh, a three-year letter-winner and captain his senior year, appeared in three straight Eastern Massachussetts Super Bowls at Marshfield HS. His senior season, he was named an Eastern Massachusetts All-Star, and also the Marshfield Defensive MVP. McHugh was also selected to the Patriot Ledger and the Boston Herald All-Scholastic teams during his senior year. In addition, he was a letter-winner as a member of both the Marshfield basketball and rugby teams.

Thomas Francis McHugh is the son of Thomas and Deborah McHugh and has a younger brother and two younger sisters.
