Claeys was a first-team all-state selection at defensive end and an honorable mention all-league pick at wide receiver at Johannesburg-Lewiston HS ... named All-Area Defensive Player of the Year and league MVP as a senior after recording 72 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception ... helped the team to a conference title as a senior when nine of his 11 catches on the offensive end went for touchdowns ... earned all-conference accolades on both offense and defense in each of his final two seasons ... named first-team all-area at tight end as a junior and as a defensive end as a senior ... was a three-year captain in both football and basketball ... three-time first-team all-league and all-conference selection in basketball ... four-year starter on the hardcourt, he was honorable mention all-state as a senior and captured All-Area Player of the Yea ... scored 1,177 career points.
