Biography

At Cornell: An honorable mention All-Ivy selection in 2007, Canty has emerged as the team’s go-to receiver and enters his senior season as one of the top returning pass-catchers in the Ancient Eight. As a junior, Canty led the team with 49 catches for 447 yards and three touchdowns. He finished 30th nationally in receptions per game and had at least three grabs in eight of the nine games he played in. Canty had eight catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns at Princeton, 10 receptions for 84 yards vs. Brown, and six catches for 76 yards and a touchdown at Dartmouth. He started all 10 games as a sophomore in 2006, catching a team-best 41 passes for 499 yards and three touchdowns. Canty averaged a solid 12.2 yards per catch and hauled in at least three passes in nine contests. He had seven catches for 93 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown, in the Big Red’s win over Ivy co-champion Princeton. Canty also had five receptions that went for 74 yards and a touchdown at Harvard, 71 yards on five grabs against Ivy co-champ Yale and 49 yards on five receptions against No. 23 Albany. His third touchdown came in the season finale against Penn. Canty was also efficient rushing the ball, carrying the ball 21 times for 83 yards. He flashed the ability to become an impact player on the offensive end as a freshman, rushing once for three yards and seeing action in a total of six contests. Canty is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

At Naperville North: A first-team all-area selection as a senior at Naperville North HS, Canty had close to 800 yards receiving, rushed for more than 200 yards, returned punts and kicked field goals and extra points as a senior. As a defensive back, he added four interceptions with 44 tackles and was invited to compete in the 2005 ICA/Shrine All-Star Football Game. He helped his team to a league title and a 10-1 record as a senior after earning Sun News Player of the Year honors as a junior. He led the team with 524 yards receiving in 2003 and ranked fourth in rushing with 357 yards. He also scored seven all-purpose touchdowns as a junior when he earned Chicago Tribune honorable mention all-state accolades. Canty was rated a two-star prospect according to scouting service Rivals.com.

Personal: Zachary Adam Canty is the son of Don and Karen Canty and has a younger brother and sister.
