2017-18 Men's Ice Hockey Roster
Biography
Senior Season — 2017-18
Rauter ranked third on the team with 11 goals and added nine assists to finish tied for third on the team in scoring with 20 points. Serving alongside Mitch Vanderlaan as a co-captain, Rauter's five power-play goals were tied with classmate Trevor Yates for the most on the team. He scored three goals in the Big Red's two-game sweep of Quinnipiac in a March 9-10 ECAC Hockey Championship quarterfinal series sweep at Lynah Rink. Once again filled in on defense occasionally, especially on the penalty kill. Rauter was later presented the team's Sam Woodside Award, which is given annually to the senior who has most improved in overall playing ability and has exhibited team leadership with his play during his career. After the season, Rauter signed a professional contract with the ECHL's Atlanta Gladiators.
Junior Season — 2016-17
Rauter proved to be one of the most versatile pieces for the resurgent Big Red, wearing several metaphorical hats. One of the team's best penalty-killing forwards throughout the season, Rauter also broke out offensively with 17 points on eight goals and nine assists — perhaps no goal more memorable than a third-period strike on a penalty shot against New Hampshire in The Frozen Apple at Madison Square Garden in New York. It was the Big Red's first goal on a penalty shot since 1987 over a span of 949 games. After a rash of injuries then struck Cornell on the blue line down the stretch, Rauter made the transition to play defense for the better part of the season's balance. He did more than hold his own over that period of 12 games, registering a plus-5 rating with five assists.
Sophomore Season — 2015-16
Rauter played in 21 games and scored his first collegiate goal Feb. 13 against Yale at Lynah Rink. Rauter also recorded three assists for a total of four points on the year, including one during the Red Hot Hockey game against Boston University on Nov. 28 at Madison Square Garden.
Freshman Season — 2014-15
Rauter worked his way into the lineup for five games, registering a pair of assists and a team-best rating of plus-3. His first career point came when he helped set up a Matt Buckles goal late in the third period of a Jan. 24 games against Dartmouth. In Rauter’s last game of the season on Feb. 7 against Princeton, he was a part of the scoring on Holden Anderson’s game-winning tally early on in the third period of a 4-2 victory.
Prior to Cornell
Rauter joins the Big Red after splitting last season among three teams, totaling two goals and six assists for eight points in the USHL with the Omaha Lancers and Youngstown Phantoms. He finished the season with the NAHL’s Wenatchee Wild, where he had six goals and six assists for 12 points in 21 regular-season games and two goals and two assists for four points in 10 playoff games. Prior to his time in the USHL and NAHL, Rauter played with a decorated North Jersey Avalanche team. The squad twice appeared in the USA Hockey National championship tournament, including a runner-up finish in 2010. Rauter also helped lead Chatham HS to the New Jersey state title in 2011.
