Ed Kelly, a native of Kinderhook, N.Y., is in his 14th season as the Big Red hockey team's athletic trainer.

Kelly was an athletic trainer at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County from 1993-95 and worked with all 20 sports teams, but primarily with men's and women's soccer, women's basketball and men's lacrosse. He also gained experience as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at SUNY-Albany (1991-93), at the 1994 Division I NCAA men's basketball tournament, the 1993 National Victory Games, the Empire State Games (1988-94), and as a student athletic trainer at Springfield College (1987-91). Kelly also worked at the 2001 men's Division I Frozen Four in Albany.

While at Albany, Kelly also worked with wrestlers from the U.S. Olympic team and served as an athletic trainer for the U.S. Greco-Roman Olympic Trials.

A 1991 graduate of Springfield College with a bachelor of science degree in athletic training and health education, Kelly earned his master of science degree at SUNY-Albany in 1993. He is also certified to teach health for grades 5-12 in Massachusetts and has earned a New York State Teacher Certificate of Qualification. He is a Frappier Acceleration Certified Administrator, allowing him to perform workouts for and instruct athletes on Cornell's ice hockey treadmill.

A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the New York Athletic Trainers' Association, Kelly is also certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Automated External Defibrilation.

Kelly and his wife, Sonja, live in Ithaca.
