Ian Burt, a former Cornell goaltender from 1997 through 2001, is in his second season as a volunteer goaltender coach with the Cornell Big Red.
Under Burt's tutelage last season, Ben Scrivens put together one of the best seasons in recent Ivy League history, posting the best goals-against average (1.33) and save percentage (.951) in league games over the last five seasons. Burt also helped Scrivens to a season goals-against average of 2.02 and a .930 overall save percentage.
Burt played four seasons with the Big Red, appearing in 41 games with a .901 save percentage and a 2.73 goals-against average. He finished his career with a 16-18-3 career record, and had his statistically best season as a junior in 1999-2000, when he posted a .913 save percentage and a 2.35 goals-against average. He graduated from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a degree in Applied Economics and Management in 2001.
Following his playing career with the Big Red, Burt played professionally in England for one season before returning to North America. He completed a master's degree at Michigan State in 2005, during which time he was the goaltender coach for Lansing (Mich.) Community College. He currently works in Cornell's Internal Audit Department, while working to complete his CPA certification.
Burt and his wife, Alanna, who serves as the goaltender coach for the Cornell women's team, have a daughter, Isabella.
