Fred Rothman, a 10-year member of the Cornell sprint football staff, joined the Big Red lacrosse staff as a volunteer assistant coach prior to the 2013 season.
Rothman works primarily with the team's stable of goalkeeprs, helping Chrisian Knight to earn consecutive All-Ivy League honors in 2014 and 2015. Last season in Ivy League play, Knight ranked first among all goalies with an 8.64 goals-against average while saving .514 percent of the shots he faced.
Following the 2014 season, Knight was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year as his .542 save percentage was good for third in the Ivy League and 20th in the nation that season. He also ranked fourth in the league and 29th in the country in goals against average (9.98). Knight was even better in conference play, averaging 11.7 saves per contest en route to a 5-1 record against Ivy foes with a .560 save percentage and a 9.64 GAA.
Rothman's efforts with AJ Fiore '13 helped the three-year starter to earn his first All-Ivy accolade with a second-team selection in 2013. Fiore ended the season ranked third in the Ivy League and 15th in the nation with an 8.93 goals-against average.
A 1971 graduate of Oceanside High School, he played both football and lacrosse before attending SUNY Oswego, where he was a member of the lacrosse team.
Most recently, Rothman served as the principal at nearby Whitney Point High School.
