Biography

As a senior (2020)

• Played in all five games for the Big Red at defensive midfield during shortened senior campaign due to COVID-19.
• Picked up a ground ball against High Point and Penn State.
• Added a caused turnover against the Nittany Lions.

As a junior (2019)

• Played in 13 games on the Big Red’s defensive midfield as a junior.
• Caused eight turnovers on the season.
• Picked up seven ground balls, including a season-high two vs. Towson and St. Bonaventure.
• Registered one assist at Yale.

As a sophomore (2018)

• Saw action in four games.
• Played against Binghamton, Air Force, Dartmouth, and Brown.
• Registered his first career points with a pair of goals vs. the Falcons.
• Picked up one ground ball against both the Bearcats and the Big Green.

As a freshman (2017)

• Saw action in one game as a freshman, playing vs. Dartmouth.

Prior to Cornell

• A 2016 US Lacrosse All-American,
• A four-year letter winner at St. Xavier High School.
• Served as team captain in each of his final two seasons.
• Helped the Bombers to four Regional finals appearances and a pair of final four appearances.
• Finished his senior season with 100 points and was named the Greater Catholic League (GCL) Player of the Year, the Southwest Ohio Player of the Year, and the Ohio Division 1 Attackman of the Year.
• Earned first-team all-league, first-team all-region, first-team all-state, and first-team All-Midwest honors as a senior.
• Was named to the Ohio Senior All-Star game and was given St. Xavier’s Offensive MVP award.
• As a junior, helped the team win the 2015 Ohio Division 1 State Championship.
• Was named first-team all-league, first-team all-region, second-team all-state and honorable mention All-Midwest as a junior.
• Lettered twice in football.

Personal

• Griffin Edward Buczek is the son of Gary and Mary Buczek and he has one brother and one sister.
• His father played football for Rutgers, while his brother, Connor ’15, played lacrosse for the Big Red and currently serves as the Richard M. Moran Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse at Cornell.
• His aunt, Colleen Cottrell Calderwood, also attended Cornell.
• Buczek is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
