Biography

As a junior (2017)
• Saw action in 11 games during his junior season as a member of the short stick defensive midfield.
• Picked up nine ground galls, including a season-high three vs. Albany.
• Caused two turnovers vs. Virginia.
• Tallied two goals on the year, scoring vs. Yale and Dartmouth.

As a sophomore (2016)
• Saw a significant jump in playing time during his sophomore season as he moved into a starting role on the Big Red’s defensive midfield.
• Saw action in all 13 games, picked up 11 ground balls, and caused five turnovers.
• Used his tremendous speed to spark Cornell’s transition game, scoring six goals on just 10 shots, and adding one assist.
• Had a season-high two points with one goal and one assist vs. Virginia.
• Picked up two ground balls three times during the year and caused a season-high two turnovers at Lehigh.

As a freshman (2015) 
• Saw action in five games during his rookie season, playing vs. Syracuse, Hobart, Binghamton, Albany and Virginia.
• Picked up one ground ball and caused one turnover on the season, both of which came against the Statesmen. 
 
At The Landon School
• Lettered twice at the Landon School.
• Served as team captain and earned team MVP honors as a senior.
• Following a 2014 campaign in which he helped Landon to an IAC Regular Season Co-Championship and a No. 8 national ranking by Lacrosse Magazine, he earned All-IAC honors and was a first-team All-Gazette selection, as well as a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American.
• Recorded 23 goals and 10 assists during his senior year, while leading the team in ground balls.
• Named a finalist for the C. Markland Kelly award, presented to the best high school lacrosse player in the state of Maryland.
• As a junior, helped Landon to a second place finish in the IAC and was selected to the Maryland Freestate Team and was named the Landon summer MVP at the 2013 Under Armour Shootout. 
• Lettered twice in cross country, serving as team captain.
 
Personal
• John Patrick Bolen is the son of Edward and Elizabeth Bolen and he has one younger brother.
• His father Edward was a four-year letter winner in tennis at Kansas, serving as team captain his senior season.
• Enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
