Biography
Tambroni on Espey: "He ran with the attack quite a bit in the fall and we were pleased with his development. He’s a threat with the ball and can break down just about any defender. We just need him to be comfortable in a dual role."
At Cornell: Espey saw action in all 16 games during his junior season, seeing significant time on the Big Red’s second midfield line. He scored 10 goals and tallied five assists for 15 points on the year. Espey registered three multi-point games on the season, scoring two goals and one assist vs. Harvard, two goals vs. Dartmouth and a goal and an assist vs. Hobart. As a sophomore, Espey played in 13 games and tallied three points with one goal and two assists. He registered his first collegiate point with an assist against Notre Dame and notched another helper in the team’s next game vs. Army. Espey scored his first career goal at Hobart. As a rookie, Espey played in seven games and picked up one ground ball on the season.
At St. Anthony’s: A scholastic All-America selection in 2004, Espey received three varsity letters in lacrosse for St. Anthony’s HS, while also lettering twice in soccer. Espey was named to the all-Long Island team as a junior and was an all-conference selection as a senior. He was a member of the Long Island Empire State Games team in 2003.
Personal: John H. Espey is the son of John and Linda Espey and is enrolled in Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. He has two older sisters. His father was the head lacrosse coach at Stony Brook and Duke for a combined 26 years and is currently an assistant coach with Major League Lacrosse’s Long Island Lizards.
