Biography
Career:
Belisle became the fist Cornell defenseman to win Schmeisser Cup since Chris Kane took home the honor in 1978. He was a two-time All-American and a two-time first-team All-Ivy pick. He started every game for the final three seasons of his career and averaged 34 ground balls per year. Following graduation, he was chosen by the L.A. Riptide in the second round of the Major League Lacrosse draft with the 12th overall pick, and was the first overall true defenseman taken in the 2007 National Lacrosse League draft, going to the New York Titans in the first round with the 13th overall pick.

At Cornell:
Belisle capped an outstanding collegiate career by winning the USILA’s Schmeisser Cup as the top defensive player in the nation. He was a USILA first-team All-American and a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection as a senior. Belisle was also honored by Cornell as the winner of the Mario St. George Boiardi '04 Leadership Award for most embodying leadership, athleticism and a strong work ethic. He served the Big Red as co-captain during the 2007 season and anchored the third-best defense in the nation, earning Ivy League Player of the Week honors once. Belisle was routinely given the task of guarding the opposing team's most dangerous offensive threat and proved to be up to the challenge game-in and game-out, holding his defensive marks to an average of 1.69 points per game, while those same players averaged 3.11 points per game against other opponents. Belisle ranked sixth on the team with 42 ground balls and registered a goal and an assist on the season. An outstanding student in the college of Industrial and Labor Relations, Belisle was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large First Team. Belisle earned honorable mention All-America accolades and was named first-team All-Ivy following a brilliant junior season in which he served as the Big Red's top defensive player. Belisle started all 14 games and finished the year ranked second on the team with 41 ground balls. Belisle picked up at least one ground ball in each game and scooped a career-high six in the season opener vs. Binghamton. As a sophomore, Belisle started all 14 games for the Big Red. He picked up 19 ground balls, including a season-high four vs. Army, and tallied an assist vs. Hobart. Belisle did not play as a freshman.

At Severna Park and Bourne:
Belisle earned a combined eight letters in lacrosse and ice hockey while spending two years each at Severna Park (Md.) HS and at Bourne (Mass.) HS. He was a lacrosse scholastic All-American and earned spots on the all-county and Free State teams. In hockey, Belisle was a team and league MVP and served as a captain for two seasons. He also earned team MVP honors for his club hockey team, the Chesapeake Chiefs.

Personal:
Mitchell Dye Belisle is the son of Richard and Nancy Belisle and is enrolled in Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations. His younger sister, Renee, is currently a sophomore at Cornell.
