At Cornell

Howley began his tenure at Cornell in July 1995. Since that time, he has worked with numerous athletic teams to help improve performance, instill life-long work habits, and develop a “culture of excellence” that enables student-athletes to succeed during their time at Cornell and beyond.

During his time at Cornell, Howley has worked with over 130 NCAA All-Americans, six NFL players, 14 NHL players, 35 professional lacrosse players and five Olympic gold medalists. In addition, teams he has worked with at Cornell have won over 30 conference championships and played in eight NCAA Final Four tournaments.
 
Howley is the author of the book "Complete Conditioning for Lacrosse," which was published in 2015. Since 1997, he has been involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). In 2020, he became the Cornell FCA campus director.

Prior To Cornell
Before his arrival at Cornell, Howley spent four years as the assistant director of strength and conditioning at East Carolina University (1991-95). While there, the Pirates participated in two bowl games (1992 Peach Bowl and 1995 Liberty Bowl), qualified for the 1994 NCAA Baseball Tournament and played in the 1993 NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Howley was a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Auburn University from 1989-91, where he earned his master's degree in exercise physiology. While serving as an assistant coach for special teams with the Tigers, Auburn were named co-champions of the SEC in 1989, played in the 1990 Hall of Fame Bowl, and won the 1991 Peach Bowl.

Athletic Career
Howley was a three-year letterman and two-year starting offensive lineman on Tulane's football team under head coach Mack Brown. The Green Wave played in the 1987 Independence Bowl his senior year. He was also the recipient of the New Orleans Quarterback Club Student-Athlete Award as a senior.
