Freshman Season — 2011-12
Riggs was one of just three competitors to appear in all 25 of the Big Red's dual matches, going 10-13 while competing around the middle of the order in singles matches. He had a pair of victories in Ivy League play, defeating Columbia's Nathaniel Gery and Princeton's Augie Bloom in straight sets to bookend the Big Red's league slate. Riggs had a three-match winning streak in early March, including a victory over Illinois State's Skip Span — who led his team in victories at the time. Riggs was also 5-14 in doubles, posting an even 2-2 mark while competing with classmate Quoc-Daniel Nguyen at the No. 3 spot. In fall tournament play, Riggs was 6-3 and advanced to the Round of 32 at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships in October. He was also 4-3 in fall doubles competitions with sophomore Evan McElwain, sweep all three tilts a non-scoring quad match against Yale, Army and Binghamton in October.
At Pompano Beach HS
Riggs, the grandson of former world champion Bobby Riggs, has been tabbed a blue-chip recruit with a five-star rating by the Tennis Recruiting Network. He has ranked as high as 19th in the USTA Boys’ 18 rankings. At Pompano Beach high school, he won the 2010 high school doubles championship. He also won the National Team title with Florida in 2010 and the Florida State doubles championship in 2009.
Personal
Daniel James Riggs is the son of Lawrence and Regina Riggs. He is enrolled in the College of Hotel Administration.
