Smith on Rakestraw: Like Sarah, Marissa is another player that will bring great size and a high basketball IQ to our class. She is strong on the block and likes to play a physical brand of basketball. She also has nice touch from 15-feet and is a good passer for her position.

Rakestraw was a four-year letter winner at Beaverton HS, leading her team to a 21-7 record and an Oregon 6A State Tournament appearance as a senior. That season, she led her team in points (15.3), rebounds (9.8), blocked shots and charges taken and was a McDonald's All American nominee and a Wendy's Heisman State Finalist. She was also the 56th ranked forward by ESPN in 2011. Rakestraw was a four-time All-Metro League player, with a first-team selection during her senior season, and was both an all-state honorable mention selection and a second-team all-state tournament selection in 2011. She led her team to three Oregon 6A State playoff appearances and was a two-time ODS Player of the Game selection in the state tournament. As a junior, she led her team in scoring and rebounding and also set a school record with 32 points in a single game. Rakestraw also lettered three times in volleyball.
