Biography

As a Junior (2015-16)
DeBruin saw time on the Big Red’s second and third lines through the first 15 games of the season, scoring a goal in a 6-1 win at Mercyhurst on Nov. 21 and adding an assist in a 4-3 victory at St. Lawrence before an injury sidelined her for the remainder of the season.

As a Sophomore (2014-15)
DeBruin appeared in all 33 games for the Big Red during her second season in 2014-15. Playing a big role on Cornell’s shutdown third line unit, she finished the year with four points on one goal and three assists. She scored the game-winning goal in the Big Red’s hard fought 2-0 shutout at Yale on Jan. 16. She added a big assist in Cornell’s 2-1 victory at Dartmouth on Jan. 23, in which the Big Red were playing extremely shorthanded with only seven forwards dressed. She added 15 blocks.

As a Freshman (2013-14)
DeBruin saw action in 33 of Cornell’s 34 games this season and recorded three goals and six assists for nine points. She had two two-point games, in the Big Red’s 5-2 victory over Syracuse (1 goal, 1 assist) and in Cornell’s 6-3 win over Yale (2 assists). She was named ECAC Hockey’s Rookie of the Week on Mar. 11 for her assist on Cassandra Poudrier’s game-winning goal against Clarkson to win the ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship, 1-0.

Before Cornell
DeBruin is one of three members of the Class of 2017 who comes to Ithaca having played her junior hockey with the Aurora Junior Panthers. DeBruin was an assistant captain for the Panthers her first two years with the team and was upgraded to a co-captain in her final year. She finished first on the team with 42 points in 36 games in the 2012-13 regular season and tied for ninth in points in the league. In 2011-12, she was part of a team that finished second in the PWHL and fourth at the Final Four Weekend. She was second on the team in points that season with 39. In high school, DeBruin was an assistant captain of her team since her freshman year and a captain her senior year. She was the top goal scorer in the Ottawa Bell Sensplex High School Tournament and won the Wave Hockey Tournament as well her senior year.

Caroline Marie DeBruin is the daughter of Doug DeBruin and Margarida Roncon. She has a younger brother named Jake.
