E-mail Coach Davidson (mmd46@cornell.edu)

Melody Davidson, an assistant coach for the 2002 Olympic gold medal-winning Canadian women[apos]s hockey team and the recently-named head coach of Team Canada for the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy, is the seventh head coach in Cornell women[apos]s hockey history. She is entering her third season at the helm of the Big Red.

With the responsibility of guiding the Big Red to national prominence, Davidson brings a strong background of player development and basic winning hockey to the table. Her ability to recruit major hockey areas in Canada and the United States will prove beneficial as Cornell attempts to climb the ECAC and Ivy League standings.

Davidson spent 2000-01 and 2001-02 working with the Canadian National Team as it trained for the 2002 Olympics. The squad won five straight games at the Olympics, including a hard-fought 3-2 win over the United States in the gold medal game. She also helped guide the team to gold medals at the Women[apos]s World Hockey Championship in 2001 and the Four Nation[apos]s Cup in 2000. Davidson served as the head coach of the 1999-2000 National Team, which captured Canada[apos]s sixth consecutive gold medal at the 2000 Women[apos]s World Hockey Championship and was an assistant coach with the 1994 team, which also won gold.

Prior to her responsibilities with the Canadian team, Davidson worked with Hockey Alberta in 2000-01 as the coaching development coordinator. She also served as the head coach of women[apos]s ice hockey at Connecticut College from 1997-2000. The 1997-98 season was the inaugural year for women[apos]s hockey at the school.

She was an assistant coach with the Edmonton Chimos in 1996-97 when the squad won a gold medal at the 1997 Esso National Women[apos]s Hockey Championship and coached Team Alberta at the Canada Winter Games in 1995.

A 1986 graduate of the University of Alberta, Davidson has a bachelor[apos]s degree in physical education. She also holds several coaching certificates and received a national coaching diploma from the University of Calgary in 1996.
