Biography
As a Senior (2016)
Kiep took over as the primary draw specialist as a senior and started all 19 games on defense for the BIg Red. She led the team with 47 draw controls, including a career-high nine in he Ivy League Tournament Championship, to finish eighth in program history with 93 career draw controls. Serving as the backer on Cornell's nationally prominent defensive unit, she finished with 16 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.
As a Junior (2015)
Kiep appeared in all 16 contests – including 15 starts – for the Big Red in her return following a lost season due to injury in 2014. She played a big role in the draw control for the Big Red, finishing third on the squad with 31 during the season. She secured two, adding a ground ball and caused turnover in her season debut at Temple on 2/21. She posted multi-caused turnover games three times during the regular season; collect a pair in contests against Colgate (3/4), Dartmouth (4/4), and Harvard (4/18). She collected a season high six draw controls in the victory at Yale on 3/7. She concluded the year with 13 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.
As a Sophomore (2014)
Due to injury, Kiep did not appear in any games this season.
As a Freshman (2013)
Kiep found a large role in the Big Red’s midfield during her first season at Cornell, starting in five games but playing in all 16. She scored six goals and racked up 15 draw controls including a career-high three against Boston University to end the Big Red regular season. She notched a career-best two goals at Yale on April 20 on only two shots.
Before Cornell
Kiep helped build her high school’s lacrosse program, serving as team captain and scoring over 100 goals. A winner of her school’s "Three D's" award for her determination, dedication and drive, Kiep was an All-Olympic Conference first team member for three consecutive years and was named to First Team All-South Jersey in 2011 and 2012. A focused, hard-working and athletic player, Kiep was also on the South Jersey team at the U.S. Lacrosse Women’s Division National Tournament as a sophomore and junior. Kiep was a strong basketball player and soccer player on decorated high school teams, where she served as captain for both squads, was named All-Conference for basketball and won a 2009 state championship in soccer. Her basketball background will serve her well as she competes for a spot in the midfield or the defensive units.
Personal
Madeline Rebecca Kiep is the daughter of Robert and Sigrid Kiep. She has a younger sister, Gretchen.
