Career Stats
As a senior
McHugh's Cornell career came to a close with another terrific season. A team captain, McHugh's efforts in the midfield all season were rewarded with a second team All-Ivy selection. Always reliable on the draw, McHugh led Cornell with 43 draw controls and moved to seventh all-time in school history by the end of the year. McHugh was also potent on offense, scoring 20 goals and assisting on two more. She scored two hat tricks on the year at Princeton and at Brown, and she had a streak of 11 consecutive games with a goal at one point in the year. She scored at least one point in every game of the season except the finale against Dartmouth.
As a junior
McHugh was named to the All-Ivy honorable mention team after scoring 17 goals and leading the team with 24 draw controls. She also was among the team leaders with 18 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. McHugh's only goal proved to be the game winner against Colgate, and she netted three scores against both Harvard and Yale. The junior scored on 7-of-15 free-position shots to lead the team. McHugh registered hat tricks against Harvard and Yale and scored twice against Florida. She posted four draw wins at Loyola and won four draws with three ground balls against Syracuse. McHugh had two goals, four caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls in the win over Brown.
As a sophomore
McHugh was one of Cornell's top all-around players as a sophomore, starting all 15 contests for the Big Red. She ended the season with 14 goals and three assists, and ranked among the team leaders in ground balls (16), caused turnovers (14) and draw controls (14). McHugh scored three times in the win over Colgate and was credited with the game-winning goal against No. 17 Princeton, snapping a 22-match losing skid against the Tigers. She netted a pair of goals with four ground balls and three caused turnovers against Hofstra and caused four turnovers, won three ground balls and won a draw against Rutgers. She won three draws in a game twice, including in a one-goal win over Ivy foe Brown.
As a freshman
McHugh had a strong rookie campaign, posting 20 goals and 21 total points while playing in all 16 games with 12 starts. She finished tied for second on the team in goals scored and was fourth in points, while also piling up 21 ground balls, 11 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Her 10 free-position goals ranks fourth all-time at Cornell in a season with three games of multiple free-position scores. McHugh had a career-high three goals against Columbia and Loyola (Md.) in consecutive games and ended the season with seven contests with multiple points. McHugh was credited with the game winning score vs. Columbia and New Hampshire on the road. She had a strong all-around game in the victory over NCAA qualifier Vanderbilt, scoring a goal, winning two draws, causing a turnover and scooping up a ground ball. She posted a career-best four ground balls at Dartmouth.
At Fayetteville-Manlius HS
A two-time first-team all-league pick at Fayetteville-Manlius HS, McHugh led the team in ground balls, draw controls and goals scored as a senior. She was named first-team all-Central New York and a U.S. Lacrosse scholastic All-American in her final season. A second-team all-league pick as a sophomore, McHugh helped her team to a spot in the state finals. She was part of a state championship squad as a freshman. The three-year starter competed at the national tournament for two years. A three-sport star that lettered 12 times in soccer, lacrosse and indoor track and field, McHugh was honored with scholar-athlete awards in each sport season. A four-year starter and two-year captain in soccer, she was a three-time second-team all-league selection. She also served as team captain of the track team her junior and senior year, helping her squad to a sectional championship.
Personal
Shannon Adele McHugh is the daughter of Gary and Linda McHugh and has an older brother. She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
