Second Team All-Ivy (2014, 2015)
As a Senior (2015)
Hefner had an excellent senior season to conclude her Cornell career. She was a Second Team All-Ivy selection after tallying 15 goals and 21 points overall. Still playing a primary role on draw controls, she finished second on the team with 36 on the year. She became the program’s all-time leader in draws against Cal on 3/29 when she secured three in a 23-6 victory. She concluded her career with 159 draw control wins during her career. She posted a season high for points with four (1g-3a) against 12th ranked Penn State on 4/14. She also added 17 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers on the year.
As a Junior (2014)
Hefner had an outstanding season at midfield and broke the Cornell single-season record for draw controls (68). The Second Team All-Ivy selection also added ten goals and seven assists and went a perfect 3-3 on free-position attempts. She finished the season with 21 ground balls, 68 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers.Â
As a Sophomore (2013)
Hefner was invaluable on the draw control for the Big Red in her sopohmore campaign, picking up 44 to place second on Cornell and third in school history for a single season. Her 2.75 draw controls per game rank fifth all-time in a single season for the Big Red. She had 10 in one game against Albany at a neutral site in Maryland, breaking the Cornell single-game record by two. Her offense has also improved, as she was the Big Red’s sixth-leading scorer with 17 goals and six assists and its third-leading scorer in conference games. Hefner was named to the All-Ivy Honorable Mention Team at the conclusion of the regular season for her play during the year.
As a Freshman (2012)
Hefner made an immediate impact with the Big Red, playing significant time in the midfield and starting 11 games. She scored eight goals and two assists for 10 total points, and her eight goals came on just 12 shots. Hefner picked up 18 ground balls, caused 10 turnovers and won 11 draws during her 13 games in 2012.
Before Cornell
Hefner was an all-league pick as a junior at St. Paul's School for Girls and serves as team captain as a senior. A four-year letter winner in lacrosse, she earned a combined seven varsity letters in soccer and basketball. She was named all-league as a senior captain for the soccer team, helping lead in to a spot in the conference championship. Her basketball team won the conference title in 2009.
Personal
Sarah Marie Hefner is the daughter of Donald and Teresa Hefner. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
