Biography
Junior Season — 2016-17
Stewart had a pivotal role in the Big Red's historic season, which culminated in the program's first Ivy League title, a national ranking of No. 49 and a matching of the program record with 15 dual-match victories. She tied a program record with 17 singles victories in dual matches, including a 13-match winning streak to close out the season and a perfect 7-0 mark in Ivy League play. Stewart emerged victorious in her lone super tiebreaker and all four tiebreakers — two of which came in the third set of key Ivy League victories against defending champion Princeton and Harvard, which led the league at the time. In doubles, Stewart and Madison Stevens were 11-5 from primarily the No. 3 spot, where they were a stout 5-1 in Ivy matches. After the season, she was presented with the team's Most Improved Player award. ... During the fall tournament season, Stewart appeared in just the Bulldog Invitational, where she was 2-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles.
Sophomore Season — 2015-16
Stewart tied for second in dual match singles victories with a 15-7 record, and she also posted a 12-11 mark in doubles. Primarily settled into the No. 3 singles position, Stewart went on a remarkable run by winning 10 consecutive matches in non-league play frm Feb. 14 to March 20. She was 2-5 in Ivy League play, winning her only two appearances of the season at the No. 4 position against opponents from Brown and Yale. Stewart's efforts in doubles were split between entries at No. 1 with Marika Cusick (4-5 record) and at No. 2 with Priyanka Shah (8-6 record; 3-1 in Ivy League play). ... In limited action during fall tournaments, Stewart was 4-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles. She advanced through singles qualifying for the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional and won her first-round match against an opponent from Harvard.
Freshman Season — 2014-15
Stewart led the team in doubles victories, posting an 11-5 record in dual matches. She teamed up with classmate Priyanka Shah to make a dominating combination primarily at the No. 2 spot, where the duo was 7-1 overall and 5-1 in Ivy League matches. Stewart was also 8-7 in singles from the middle four positions in the order, including a perfect 3-0 mark from the No. 3 spot. All three of her wins from the No. 4 spot came in Ivy League play against opponents from Brown, Yale and Penn. ... In fall tournaments, Stewart started her collegiate career with nine consecutive singles victories — which included a 'B' bracket title at the Cornell Fall Invitational and a trip to the Round of 64 at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regionals. She was also 9-3 in doubles. Seven of those of victories came while teamed with Dena Tanenbaum, including a trip to the quarterfinals of regionals.
Prior to Cornell
Stewart was a four-time Washington Post First Team All-Met selection, including a selection as the 2013 All-Met Player of the Year after she won a Virginia state title in both singles and doubles. She served as the team captain of Oakton High School as a senior, helping the team to a Virginia Northern Region championship in 2013, and Concorde District titles in both 2013 and 2014. Stewart earned all-district first-team honors in both of those seasons. While at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School, she was named the 2011 Virginia Independent School League Athletic Association All-State Player of the Year. She was a two-time selection for the Head's List at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School, then a two-time Honor Roll selection at Oakton HS. She received the Scholar-Athlete Award in all four high school years, and also received the Virginia Board of Education Seal on her high school diploma. Stewart was listed as a four-star recruit by the Tennis Recruiting Network, and was ranked as high as 50th nationally in 2013 for her graduating class and as high as first among recruits from Virginia.
Personal
Elizabeth Claire Stewart is the daughter of Sheldon and Allyson Stewart, and she has two older brothers. She is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.
