Biography

An aggressive baseliner who uses her powerful forehand to push her opponents off the court, John is armed with one of the biggest serves in women’s tennis and can unload on serves reaching 120 mph. With the addition of her improved transition and net play, she is on her way to making a big impact in the Ivy League. 

2007-08 Season
John had a highly successful spring season, posting a 9-7 record at the No. 3 singles spot. Her five-match win streak to start the season included wins over Syracuse and UMass. Against Hawaii-Hilo, John was able to secure a three set victory over the No. 37 ranked player in Division II. She also picked up three Ivy League wins, including three setters against Brown and Penn. John also won six matches in doubles, playing predominantly at the No. 1 spot. John finished the fall season with a 5-3 singles and a 2-4 doubles record. She made it to the semifinals of the Cornell Fall Invitational, the quarterfinals at the Cissie Leary Invitational, and qualified for the ITA East Regional Championships in both singles and doubles.

At Penfield
A 2004 state champion finalist and Rochester District champion, John is a graduate of Penfield HS. She achieved a No. 20 national ranking by USTA and also ETA rankings as high as No. 1 (14’s), No. 3 (16’s) and No. 7 (18’s).

Personal
Tamara John is the daughter of Paul and Ann-Marie John and has a younger brother. John is enrolled in Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
