At Cornell
Junior (2012): Young proved to be the most versatile player on the team in 2012, opening the season as the squad’s libero before moving back to her natural position of outside hitter vs. Harvard on Oct. 12 and remaining in that role for the remainder of the campaign. She led the team with 248 digs (2.56 per set), reaching double-digits in 11 matches. Young’s 31 digs vs. Binghamton on Oct. 9 was a personal best and also ranked 17th all-time in Cornell history for individual digs in a match. After moving to outside hitter, she posted double-digit kills in six of the Big Red’s final eight games, including a season-high 19 vs. Columbia on Oct. 20. Young also tallied 29 service aces on the year (0.30 per set), good for third on the team and fourth in the Ivy League. She also registered 42 assists and 13 total blocks.
Sophomore (2011): Young saw much of her sophomore season cut short due to injury, but she still managed to see action in 17 matches and make eight starts. She averaged 0.92 kills and 2.22 digs and per set. Young ranked fourth on the team with 11 service aces and handled the fifth most service receptions (227) with just six errors for with a team-leading .974 reception percentage.
Freshman (2010): Young saw action in 21 matches, playing in 66 sets during her freshman season. She finished the year with 24 kills (0.36 per set), 126 digs (1.91 per set) and 12 service aces. Young registered a career-high six kills to go along with 10 digs in a Big Red victory over UConn. She also tallied a career-high 15 digs vs. Princeton on Oct. 23.
Prior to Cornell
Young was a three-time letter winner at the Benet Academy, where she led her team to back-to-back IHSA sectional championships in 2008 and 2009, as well as an IHSA state runner-up finish in 2008. As a player, she earned all-conference, all-area and all-state honors. In the classroom, Young was named to the PrepVolleyball.com Academic All-American team, and was a recipient of the IHSA Team Academic Award and the AVCA Team Academic Award. Young played her club volleyball with Sports Performance and helped her team to a first place finish at the 2010 JVA World Challenge.
Personal
Sierra Noelle Young is the daughter of Mary Ellen and Tony Young and she has one younger sister. She is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
