Stephen Mozia Places 10th at IAAF World Junior Championships

BARCELONA, Spain -- Representing the United States at the IAAF World Junior Championships, rising Cornell sophomore Stephen Mozia finished 10th on Wednesday afternoon  with a mark of 63' 9 3/4".

Competing against the best young athletes on the planet, Mozia reached the finals by throwing the second-best distance in his preliminary flight earlier in the day. With a best mark earlier Wednesday morning of 65' 0", Mozia had the fourth-best performance of the morning between the two flights.

Mozia was the lone American to advance to the finals, where he saw competition from New Zealand, Poland, Australia and seven other countries. On his first throw in the finals, Mozia reached his 63' 9 3/4" mark. He fouled on the second throw and did not better the 63' 9 3/4" on his final throw.

New Zealand's Jacko Gill won the competition with a throw of 72' 10". The throw was a championships record.
