ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior
Sarah O'Neil and freshman
Lauren Frazier were included in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's final Northeast Region rankings for the 2011-12 season. O'Neil was tabbed 14th in the region for the year and teamed with Frazier to comprise the region's No. 3 doubles team.
Frazier and O'Neil were the Big Red's exclusive No. 1 doubles team through the Ivy League season, posting an impressive 5-2 record against the other Ancient Eight's other top doubles teams. The success culminated with a sweep of ranked pairs in the final weekend —Sol Eskenazi and Jules Rodin from Penn and Hilary Bartlett and Lindsay Graff from Princeton. Those were the only two doubles team placed ahead of Frazier and O'Neil in the Northeast Region.
The Cornell pair posted a 8-3 record overall, with all of their competition on the season coming at the No. 1 spot in dual matches. Their first match together was on March 3 against Fairleigh Dickinson — a 8-5 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson's Irina Dementyeva and Anna Rapoport. Frazier and O'Neil were then named to the All-Ivy League First Team after the season.
On the singles side of competition, O'Neil was a fixture at the No. 1 spot en route to All-Ivy Second Team accolades. She posted an overall record of 8-10, coming up a perfect 3-0 in matches against ranked opponents — including a season sweep of Princeton's Hilary Bartlett. O'Neil was then named the Big Red's most valuable player and most improved player at the team's postseason banquet.
