PHILADELPHIA — The women's tennis team will compete in its second tournament of the season this weekend, travelling south to take part in Penn's Cissie Leary Invitational.
The Big Red had an impressive debut last weekend, taking three of four bracket titles at the Cornell Fall Invitational at Reis Tennis Center. Senior
Sarah O'Neil won all three of her matches, including a three-set rally to top teammate
Ryann Young in the final of “A” Flight Singles. Freshman
Laila Judeh won her first three collegiate singles matches in straight sets to claim the “B” Flight Singles title, and the sophomore tandem of
Courtney Malinchak and
Sara Perelman topped the field in “B” Flight Doubles. In all, the Big Red's 12 competitors in action all finished with at least two singles victories apiece.
In last year's event, senior
Christine Ordway was seeded fifth and advanced to the quarterfinals of the main draw. Senior
Sarah O'Neil and junior
Ryann Young won three matches apiece between the main draw and consolation matches.
The draws to this year's event will be posted here later in the week. There are 16 participating schools — Cornell, Akron, Bowdoin, Columbia, Dartmouth, Delaware, Drexel, Maryland, Penn, Penn State, Rhose Island, Richmond, St. John's, St. Joseph's, Temple and Yale.
