Women's Tennis Off to Strong Start at Winter Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's tennis team swept all of its singles matches on Friday to highlight play on the first day of the Cornell Winter Invitational at Reis Tennis Center.
 
Freshmen Dena Tanenbaum won her first-round match in A Singles, defeating Seton Hall's Karina Cordero in straight sets. Tanenbaum will take on Army's Erin Colton, the third seed, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Freshman Laila Judeh also won her first match Friday, 7-5, 6-2, over Army's Gabby Spindler. Second-seeded Chloe Sher of Seton Hall awaits Judeh in the quarterfinals. Senior Sarah O'Neil is the top seed, advancing straight to Saturday's matches.
 
In B Singles, Kirsten Kohagen, Christy Kung and Sara Perelman all won their first-round matches. Courtney Malinchak is also in the bracket, having enjoyed a first-round bye before a 10:30 a.m. Saturday match vs. Army's Haley O'Connor.
 
Doubles play also kicked off Friday, with all three Cornell entries in the A bracket advancing to the semifinals. The top-seeded pair of Malinchak and O'Neil secured a 8-5 victory, and the tandems of Judeh and Tanenbaum, and Kung and Perelman won their respective matches to earn a date against each other at 9 a.m. Saturday.
