CONWAY, S.C. – Freshmen
Dena Tanenbaum and
Laila Judeh teamed up to win the No. 3 doubles match, then went on to win their respective singles matches in a 5-2 victory on Monday at Coastal Carolina. The win pushes Cornell to 9-0 and leaves the Big Red as one of just two remaining undefeated teams in the country.
Coastal Carolina (7-6) got on the board first, winning two of three doubles matches. Cornell responded by winning five of six singles matches, including freshman
Christy Kung's first collegiate dual match. She defeated the Chanticleers' Vanessa Ortiz, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 6 position. Junior
Ryann Young also dropped just one game in her No. 2 match with Mikaela Davies.
Judeh's victory came against Kourtney Kowal at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3, to give the Big Red a 3-2 lead as the final two matches entered a third set. Both Tanenbaum (No. 3) and
Lauren Frazier (No. 5) came out on top to secure the match for the Big Red.
Cornell and Buffalo are the last two undefeated teams in the country, now sporting 9-0 records. The Big Red will attempt to become the nation's only 10-0 squad when it takes on College of Charleston at 1 p.m. Tuesday in its non-league finale.
