HANOVER, N.H. -- Dwight Tarwater scored a career-high 23 points and Devin Cherry scored 22, but Dartmouth hit 12-of-20 3-pointers on its way to an 87-78 victory over the Big Red on Saturday evening at Leede Arena. The Big Green improved to 10-16 (3-9 Ivy), while the Big Red dropped to 2-24 (1-11 Ivy).

Tarwater connected on 7-of-10 shots from the floor and 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and added four rebounds, while Cherry made 8-of-14 from the floor to go along with three assists. The Big Red shot 50 percent from the floor, but couldn't overcome Dartmouth's success from long range in its fifth straight loss. Ned Tomic added 12 points and four rebounds off the bench, while Nolan Cressler had nine points.

Dartmouth's Alex Mitola was the man on fire for much of the night, connecting on 8-of-9 from beyond the arc as part of a career-high 33-point night. He added five rebounds and three assists in the win. Kevin Crescenzi netted 17 points and four boards off the bench and Connor Boehm had 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. On Senior Day, the Big Green's lone honoree Tyler Melville had 10 points, five assists and two steals. The Big Green shot 50 percent form the floor and connected on 21-of-26 free throws while ending the night with a 33-26 rebounding advantage.

The Big Red made its first six shots and took a 15-9 lead as Cornell started to quiet the Big Green perimeter game that got a pair of early open 3-pointers from Mitola. Dartmouth tied the game at 16-16, then took a brief lead at 19-18 before Cornell regained the edge at 22-21 on a pair of free throws by Tomic. The junior post player scored 10 straight points for the Big Red, including giving the visitors their final lead of the game at 28-26 with 3:04 left in the first half. Dartmouth went on a 10-2 run over the final three minutes, including a three-point play by Melville and a 3-pointer by Crescenzi, his second of the night. The Big Green went into the break up 36-30.

After hitting 6-of-13 shots from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes, the Big Red would have assumed the Big Green would slow down in the second half. It didn't go down that way, the home team hit 6-of-7 from beyond the arc after halftime. Included was a perfect 5-of-5 effort by Mitola as part of his 22-point second half. Dartmouth took a 12-point lead early in the second half only to see the Big Red get back within three (46-43) on a Darryl Smith jumper.

That only sparked the home team to a 18-8 run that included a pair of rainbow Mitola treys that extended Dartmouth's lead back to 13 with 9:19 remaining. The Big Red cut into the lead, making a run to get back within six with 40 seconds remaining, but the Big Green went 6-for-6 down the stretch from the line to seal the win.

Cornell closes out the 2013-14 campaign with Senior Weekend at Newman Arena beginning with a matchup against Princeton on Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m.
