6/8/2018 12:00:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell head football coach David Archer '05 and his staff are excited to announce the newest members of the Big Red Football family. The Class of 2022, featuring 29 incoming freshmen and a sophomore transfer, joins a Cornell football program building momentum.

Hailing from 19 states, the class of 2022 will attempt to help secure the Big Red's first Ivy title on the gridiron since 1990. A class-high four recruits played high school football in California and Illinois and two join the Big Red from Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas and Washington. Twelve other states send one player each to Ithaca. In all, 13 of the players will join the offense, 11 will aid the defense and three will concentrate on special teams.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Big Red brings in seven defensive back/safeties, three linebackers and two defensive linemen. Cornell went for plenty of skill players on the offense, bringing in three wide receivers, three running backs, a fullback, a tight end and two quarterbacks. The offensive line will also be bolstered with the addition of five student-athletes who average 6-4 and 280 pounds. Cornell also added two place-kicker/punters and long snapper for next season.

The Big Red opens the 2018 season at perennial FCS power Delaware on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Newark, Del.
