A hard-nosed player with great basketball instincts, Wire can play either forward position. Strong enough to rebound and savvy with the ball as a passer, Wire is a reliable reserve who was able to gain valuable experience as a key reserve during his sophomore season. He is an outstanding and versatile defender who can guard multiple positions and plays with confidence.
As a junior
Wire played in all 33 contests with two starts, averaging 1.9 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per game. He shot 55 percent from the floor and had a nearly 2:1 assist:turnover ratio (24-14). Wire ranked among the team leaders in steals (23) and offensive rebounds (35). He corralled a career-best 13 rebounds in a win over Vermont and scored 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting vs. Seton Hall. Wire had three games with at least three steals and 19 games in which he played double figure minutes. He posted six rebounds in 13 minutes vs. Wisconsin.
As a sophomore
Wire averaged 2.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 29 games off the bench. He led team in steals (41) and ranked third in the Ivy League despite playing just 15.1 minutes per game. Wire averaged 2.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals in Ivy play, shooting 61 percent from the field while playing in all 14 games. He also finished second on the team in offensive rebounds (42). Wire shot 55 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the free-throw line on the season while dishing off 26 assists. Wire notched 14 points, four assists and four steals vs. Harvard and had five points, eight rebounds and four steals in 30 minutes at Minnesota. Wire had eight rebounds at Penn, seven boards and two steals in the victory over Loyola (Md.) and six points, six rebounds and three steals vs. Boston University. He was credited with five rebounds and three steals at Indiana and had six points, six rebounds and two steals at Saint Joseph's.
As a freshman
Wire played in 12 contests as a reserve, scoring seven points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing off two assists in 29 minutes of action. He hit his only 3-point attempt of the season and added a steal. Wire had two points and three rebounds in the Big Red’s Ivy-clinching win over Harvard and notched three points, two assists, a rebound and a steal in the victory over Alvernia.
At Pinecrest HS
Wire averaged 13 points, 11.2 rebounds, six assists and three steals per game this past season at Pinecrest HS en route to earning first-team all-league honors. He was the conference’s player of the year runner-up to NC State recruit C.J. Williams. Wire averaged 14 points per game at West Bend West HS in Wisconsin before transferring midway through his junior campaign.
Personal
Adam Nicholas Wire is the son of Mike and Cheryl Wire and has an older brother and sister. His brother, Brent, plays for the North Carolina junior varsity football team, while his grandfather (Michigan State) and great grandfather (Indiana) played college basketball. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
