2013-14 (junior)
Cancer did not compete for the Big Red during his junior season.

2012-13 (sophomore)
Cancer averaged 5.7 points, 2.7 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 28 games, including seven starts. He shot 34 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the free-throw line, up significantly from his freshman season. He had nine points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals in the win over Penn, including hitting the game-winning jumper with 10 seconds left. Cancer also posted double figure scoring games against Patriot League champion Bucknell (10 points, three rebounds, three assists) and Old Westbury (10 points, five assists, two steals). His biggest game of the year came at Columbia when he registered 19 points with five rebounds, three assists and a steal. Cancer had seven double figure scoring games, including a 13-point, five-rebound, four-assist effort against Saint Peter's and a 10-point, seven-assist, five-rebound contest in the win over Western Michigan.

2011-12 (freshman)
Cancer had a strong rookie campaign, averaging 6.1 points, 2.7 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while averaging 21.1 minutes per game. Cancer played in all 28 games with six starts. He was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Dec. 19 after scoring 11 points, dishing seven assists, snatching five rebounds and picking up four steals in an 85-82 overtime victory over Albany. Cancer spearheaded an Ivy-opening upset of defending league champion Princeton with  17 points, four assists, two rebounds, two steals and a block, then scored 10 points with two rebounds and two assists on the return trip to Princeton. He posted 13 points at Delaware and notched career highs of seven rebounds, six assists and three steals vs. American. Cancer as in double figures with 10 points, seven assists and three rebounds at Penn State.

At Christian Brothers Academy
Cancer was a two-time all-state selection at Christian Brothers Academy. Cancer was the Albany Times Union and Troy Record area Player of the Year as a senior after averaging 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting better than 85 percent from the free-throw line. He was the starting point guard on three sectional-title winning teams, two regional championship squads and a state title team (junior year). The conference player of the year in 2011, he was named to the News Channel 13 all-star team in his final two seasons, including being named Player of the Year as a senior. As a junior, Cancer averaged 11.2 points and 7.6 rebounds in helping CBA to a state crown. He was named to the section all-tournament team as a junior and was named MVP of the tourney in his final season. He was ranked among the top 150 high school players in the country at his position by ESPN.com.

Galal-Aldeen Iben Cancer is the son of Granville Cancer and Laturna Austin and has a younger brother and two younger sisters. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
