PRINCETON, N.J. -- A goal in the ninth minute was all the scoring in the game as the Cornell women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Princeton on Saturday afternoon at Princeton Stadium.
Princeton took a 1-0 lead with 8:25 gone in the game as Diana Matheson took a pass from Vicki Anagnostopolous and put a shot past Cornell goalkeeper
Jodi Palmer.
Palmer would come out of the game shortly after, being replaced by
Jen Case. Case picked up a pair of saves in the next 80 minutes to keep the Big Red in the contest, but Cornell could not mount an offensive surge to knot the score.
"I'm really proud of how we played today, we played with a lot of heart," said Cornell head coach Danielle LaRoche. "This was our best effort in October, and it's a shame we couldn't come away with a win. We played well in very poor weather, and
Jen Case played very, very well in goal in her first game ever in goal."
Princeton out-shot the Big Red for the game, 12-4, but Cornell put three of their shots on the goal frame, as compared to just four on goal for Princeton.
Maren Dale made three saves in goal for the Tigers, who improved to 8-5-1 on the year and 4-1 in league play. Cornell falls to 4-10 and 0-5 in Ivy League action.
