QUEENS, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's soccer team fell for the second time on its trip to New York City, coming out on the losing side of a 4-0 score against St. John's on Sunday afternoon. St. John's improves to 2-0 on the year, while the Big Red fell to 0-2 on the young season.
For the second straight game, an early goal was the Big Red's undoing, as St. John's Kelly McConnell scored just 2:11 into the contest. The Red Storm would make it 2-0 with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half as Krystle Jalalian scored the first of her two goals on the day.
The Red Storm, which entered the weekend ranked fifth in the Northeast Region, tacked on another pair of goals in the second half, both coming in the first seven minutes after the break, but the Big Red defense held firm for the remaining 40 minutes.
Jodi Palmer made seven saves in goal for Cornell.
Mariye Wick tallied the lone shot for the Big Red.
Cornell makes the 2007 home debut on Friday, taking on Hartford in a 6 p.m. game at Berman Field.
