ITHACA, N.Y. -- For the first time this season, the Cornell women's soccer team dropped a contest at home, falling to in-state rival Colgate, 3-0. The Raiders took a 1-0 lead into the half and added a pair of tallies late in the game for the final margin.
Colgate (6-4-1) got an early strike in the 16th minute when Calista Victor played a through-ball to Jillian Arnault on the left side of the Cornell goal. Arnault ran onto the ball and played a shot to the lower right corner of the goal.
In the second half, the Raiders tacked on a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes. In the 70th minute, Jessica Bitsack played a corner to the far post that was hammered into the net on a header by Christine Walker. Ten minutes later, the Raiders added an insurance goal as Josie Johnson finished a through-ball from Arnault.
Cornell (4-6) goalkeeper
Jodi Palmer picked up a pair of saves in the loss for the Big Red, which dropped a game at Berman Field for the first time in five tries this season. Brittany Pearsall got the start for Colgate, picking up three saves in 84 minutes of action. Reserve Carrie Glass came on for the final six minutes, picking up four saves as Cornell peppered the goal with shots in the final minutes of the contest.
The Big Red closes out the non-league portion of the schedule with a 4-5 mark and is now 4-6 on the season. Cornell continues Ivy League play on Saturday with a noon contest against Harvard at Berman Field.
