HAMILTON, N.Y.—The Big Red volleyball team lost, 3-1, to Colgate on Tuesday night at Cotterell Court. Cornell won the first set, but the Raiders came back to win the next three to secure the match victory. The Big Red was led by Emily Borman with 15 kills, while hitting .440.
In the first set, Cornell held a 15-10 advantage and charged on to a 25-14 win. Kathryn Woodbury and Borman each had four kills in the set, while Hilary Holland totaled 12 assists. The Big Red hit .387 in the set.
Colgate turned the tables in the second set going up 15-10 before capturing a 25-19 victory. Borman continued her hard hitting ways gathering five kills.
In the third set, the Big Red held a slight lead throughout, but the Raiders came back to tie the match at 23 all. Colgate grabbed two more kills to win the set. Junior libero Megan Mushovic had three aces. Erin McCarthy recorded five kills in just eight attempts to hit .625, while Cornell hit .355.
Colgate and the Big Red traded points back and forth throughout the fourth set and were tied at 17 before the Raiders pulled ahead to a 25-22 win. Juliana Rogers recorded six kills, and Holland tallied 14 assists.
Rogers totaled 14 kills, while McCarthy notched 13 kills and hit .343. Woodbury joined in with 10 kills and a .409 hitting percentage. Mushovic notched 12 digs with four aces. Senior captain Hilary Holland totaled 47 assists.
Colgate was led by Katerina Zawojski with 15 kills, and Merryl Pohl notched 13. Casey Ritt totaled 12 kills, while hitting .429. Jackie Adlam led the Raiders' defense with 14 digs.
The Big Red will remain on the road this weekend, traveling to Harvard and Dartmouth.
