HANOVER, N.H.—The Big Red volleyball team continued its Ivy winning ways on Saturday afternoon, playing past Dartmouth, 3-2. Cornell improves to 5-1 against Ancient Eight opponents and was led by freshman
Kelly Hansen with 14 kills. Senior
Emily Borman added 13 kills with six block assists.
The two teams were close early in the first set, but Dartmouth charged ahead to a 25-15 win.
Erin McCarthy had four kills, and junior libero
Megan Mushovic added eight digs for the Big Red defense.
Dartmouth took an early lead again in the second period, but Cornell came back to tie the set at 20 all. The Big Red and Big Green traded points back and forth to a 24 point all deadlock. A kill by Borman and a service ace from Mushovic sealed the Cornell win to tie the match at a set apiece. Hansen was five-for-six in kills and senior captain
Hilary Holland had 10 assists and five digs.
Cornell took a commanding lead in the third, but Dartmouth rallied to tie the match at 23 all. Kills by Hansen and Cekauskas earned the win. Hansen and
Kathryn Woodbury combined to make three blocks.
Dartmouth came out strong in the fourth set and plowed ahead to a 25-18 win to tie the match at two sets all. Borman had three block assists and four kills.
The teams traded points back and forth in the fifth set, but the Big Red moved on to a 15-10 win to earn its fifth Ivy League victory. Cornell hit .450 as a team in the set.
Hansen hit .455 for the match and added four block assists. Holland totaled 45 assists with 15 digs, and Mushovic recorded 17 digs.
Dartmouth was led by Megan MacGregor with 16 kills, while Madeleine Baird had 12 kills and 19 digs. Amber Bryand made a match-high 22 digs.
Cornell will return home next weekend to play host to Yale and Brown.
