HAMILTON, N.Y. -- On a frigid night in Hamilton, N.Y., the Cornell men's soccer team fell to Colgate by a 2-0 score at Van Doren Field. The loss sends the Big Red to 1-11 on the year, while Colgate improves to 8-4-2 on the season.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half, feeling each other out through the cold temperature, steady rain and slick turf. Cornell had the best chance at breaking the tie as a scrum in front of the Colgate goal found the ball at the foot of Brian Donovan, but his low shot from inside five yards away was blocked by the Colgate defense. Matt Bouraee's follow-up shot was also saved as the Raiders escaped the threat.

After the break, goalkeeper Steve Lesser made a pair of spectacular saves to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard, but Colgate broke through in the 62nd minute, capitalizing on a dangerous free kick in the Cornell end. Chris Ross sent a low line drive cross into the near post, where Matt Schuber headed the ball inside the near post for the eventual game-winner.

The Raiders made the score 2-0 in the 81st minute as Alex Weekes finished a cross from Jimmy Stevens to add an insurance strike.

Lesser finished the match with nine saves, most of them of the highlight-reel variety as he worked to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard. Colgate goalkeeper David Cappuccio picked up three saves for the victory for the Raiders.

Cornell stays on the road for its next match, heading to Providence, R.I., for a 7 p.m. contest against Brown on Saturday.
